Jade isn’t just one stone—it’s actually a name for two different minerals: jadeite and nephrite. Both look similar, but they’re chemically and structurally different. Jadeite is rarer and more valuable, especially the kind that comes in deep green (called Imperial Jade). Nephrite is more common and usually found in cream, green, or greyish tones.

Jadeite: Made of sodium, aluminum, and silicate (NaAlSi₂O₆). It’s a pyroxene mineral, harder and more valuable.
Nephrite: Composed of calcium, magnesium/iron, silicate, and hydroxide. It's an amphibole mineral, slightly softer and more fibrous.
Both have a monoclinic crystal structure and are known for their toughness.

Jadeite: Mainly in Myanmar, with smaller deposits in Guatemala, Japan, Russia, and California (USA).
Nephrite: Found in China, New Zealand, Canada, Russia (Siberia), and parts of the USA (Alaska, Wyoming).
